The misfit garden

So, we're subversive gardeners. What does that mean precisely? Basically, we refuse to waste perfectly good earth on a well-manicured lawn.

We've always felt that what little dirt we have should be dedicated to producing food and/or beauty. That sometimes puts us in direct conflict with those who might not consider horse manure an aesthetic delight--but so far, our neighbors have been pretty supportive.

None have taken the plunge and removed their lawns, but if you're interested, you can find more information here, here, and here.

An introduction

We live in an old house, in an old neighborhood, in an old town.  Our lives, when not complicated by our own over-thinking, tend to be simple:  we try not to consume too much, or impact the world in negative ways.

We are happiest in the midst of making.  That tends to happen a lot here.  Sometimes in response to disaster or mechanical malfunction--it's amazing the skills a person can develop after they receive their first plumber's bill.

We hope to share some of those solutions with you, as well as shamelessly market some of our designs.
